If you’ve ever wanted to see how the other half live (or the 0,001%), you should make your way down to the V&A Waterfront, where you can catch a glimpse of the superyacht, Octopus.

Just a glimpse though, because you can’t afford to get on board this beast of a boat. Not many people can.

The superyacht is owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who, with a net worth of around R308 billion, can afford an expensive toy or two.

He also owns M/V Tatoosh, which caused havoc when it visited the Cayman Islands a few years back, so let’s hope this yacht is behaving itself in our harbours.

Here’s Business Insider with the scoop on Octopus:

One of the world’s longest yachts, the Octopus – which carries two submarines and recording studios once used by Mick Jagger – docked at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town on Friday afternoon.

The 126.2 metres yacht, well over the length of a rugby field, cost a whopping R5,7 million ($384,000) a week to operate.

The superyacht is operated by 60 full-time staff and can comfortably house 26 guests in 41 suites. It has often been used for research expeditions including one where researchers discovered a Japanese battleship Musashi off the coast of the Philippines.

Allen is well known for throwing lavish parties on the Octopus, where stars such as Usher, Dave Stewart, U2, and Johnny Cash have performed.

Allen has also gained a reputation for having his own live performance at the parties where he plays the electric guitar.

At his yearly Cannes International Film Festiva, actors Sharon Stone, Adrian Grenier, Svetlana Metkina, John C. Reilly, Jessica Lowndes, and Kelly Rutherford, as well as models Karlie Kloss, Melissa Bolona and Natasha Poly were among the celebrities seen aboard.

Once on board, you have everything you need, including a pool, two helicopters, a movie theatre, two submarines, a basketball court and recording studio.

According to Twitter user TP Pillay, the yacht was still there this morning:

Not too shabby. Must be nice.
