During yesterday’s proceedings in the murder trial of Stellenbosch student Hannah Cornelius at the Western Cape High Court, DNA expert Warrant Officer Blanche Stubbs took to the stand.
Her testimony revealed that “the top of a cold drink bottle could spill crucial evidence” because one of the accused’s DNA, Vernon Witbooi, was found on the opening of a 2-litre bottle of Twizza cold drink.
Stubbs also said that “she found Cornelius’ DNA on a knife‚ and that it was mixed with that of unidentified people”.
Sergeant Steven Adams also testified, refuting claims that he forced accused Eben van Niekerk to write a letter to Cornelius’ parents. Van Niekerk’s advocate has stated that the letter was written under duress, and without van Niekerk having been read his rights.
The trial will continue today, and you have to feel that the State has a very strong case against the accused.
Times LIVE has been able to map out the timeline of the murder using CCTV footage, amongst other things.
Their video, which makes for pretty tough viewing, is titled “11 hours, 4 victims, 1 hell ride: Mapping the murder of Hannah Cornelius”.
