Thanks to those stickers on cars around South Africa, we know that the safe distance to give a cyclist on the road is 1,5 metres.
It’s also been a while since we’ve seen a road rage incident involving a cyclist and a motorist here at home, so perhaps some form of truce has been declared.
Good job, everyone.
This chap in the Netherlands, however, clearly isn’t that bothered about maintaining a safe distance, after footage showing his near-miss with a train was widely shared.
Over to the Evening Standard:
Speaking to Cycling Weekly after posting the footage, Geert Vlogman of ProRail said: “As well as deaths, there are more than a hundred near-misses annually.
“If only people knew how often this almost goes wrong and what the consequences are for train drivers, guards, first responders, aid workers and survivors if things do go wrong – it’s hard to imagine people thinking that way.”
Mr Vlogman decides which measures need to be taken to prevent further deaths at level crossings across the Netherlands.
Looking left, then right, then left again might be a good start:
I’m still enjoying Geert Vlogman – what a name.
I would say that everyone should watch out on the Metrorail lines, but then I’d be assuming that they were actually running.
