It’s clear that Derick Hougaard and Karlien van Jaarsveld are never going to rekindle their romance from years gone by.

The now-divorced couple have twin boys together, and they were at the centre of an acrimonious row on social media last night.

It all started when Afrikaans singer Karlien posted on Instagram about her kids being missing.

She has since deleted the post, but Channel24 have the info:

“We can’t find my sons. Derick is drunk; we don’t know where the children are please! This is how they look, please help to search!” she posted in Afrikaans on Instagram, along with a photo of the two blonde boys, smiling and wearing Christmas hats.

I don’t have children, so I will never understand that panic, but Derick was certainly less than impressed.

He took to Twitter to squash the idea that he had been an irresponsible father:

For the souties, that translates to “Apparently there is chaos about my children who were ‘gone’ while they slept safely next to their daddy tonight. It was before Karlien’s mom came and grabbed them.”

Then Karlien was back on Instagram, in another post she has since deleted, saying that she had the children back under her watch:

To finish the back and forth, at around 11PM, Derick fired back on Twitter, in a tweet he has now deleted:

Yup, that isn’t even Karlien’s Twitter account.

It breaks my heart thinking that they had to see him like this. It’s the worst thing for us that our private media in the media should be the full time.
