Let’s face it – navigating the city in your own car can be exhausting. There’s the never-ending traffic, the struggle to find a parking spot, and then the price you inevitably pay for that parking spot, especially in the city centre.

As crazy as we are about our cars, it’s so much easier to Uber, which is why millions of people benefitted from the service last year.

There’s another benefit to the rise in Uber users worldwide. Uber can keep track of how we use the service, giving us fascinating insight into the most popular destinations, foods and trends across the globe.

So without further ado, here are the top 10 most popular travel destinations of 2018:

    1. Empire State Building
    2. Freedom Tower
    3. CN Tower
    4. Arc de Triomphe
    5. Eiffel Tower
    6. Burj Khalifa
    7. Buckingham Palace
    8. Disneyland
    9. Golden Gate Bridge
    10. Sydney Opera House

According to the Uber Newsroom, the three countries that clocked the most mileage were the US, Brazil and India.

Uber also looked into Uber Eats with some weird results. Here are the top 10 food trends in 2018:

    1. Toast
    2. Avocado
    3. Goth food
    4. Cucumber
    5. Wings
    6. Tofu
    7. Soup
    8. Celery
    9. Tuna
    10. Tacos

Let’s take a moment for “goth food”, because it’s exactly what you think it is – food dyed black:

This clearly isn’t a trend in South Africa, where we actually like food.

Goth “food’ aside, the app also gave us some insight into upcoming food trends for the year ahead.

People have moved away from fast foods, and in the direction of healthier options. More people are also looking into meat alternatives and plant-based foods. Fermented foods like kimchi and kombucha are becoming more popular, as well as alternatives to milk.

With all that in mind, here are the top 10 expected food trends for 2019:

    1. Plant-based foods
    2. Smoothie bowls
    3. Pea milk
    4. Seitan
    5. Rolled ice cream
    6. Manaeesh
    7. Heme
    8. Keto
    9. Bulgur
    10. Pumpkin

If you have no idea what half the stuff on that list is, you aren’t alone. As for what’s out this year, we can say goodbye to “Millennial pink foods” which can only be a good thing.

If you want to get in on the most popular, easiest and safest way to travel, you can download the Uber app here, because who doesn’t love being ferried around.

    Happy adventuring in 2019!
