Breaking news – we are closing in on five months of legal private use of marijuana in South Africa, the country hasn’t collapsed, and roving gangs of youths aren’t causing havoc on the streets.

Almost like those fearmongering old farts who tried to keep us in the dark ages for so long don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.

Now that the veil has been lifted, it’s becoming obvious that many South Africans are actually rather fond of the plant. Just ask the staff at the Starke Ayres Garden Centre in Rosebank, who can hardly keep up with the demand for their enOrmus Bud starter kits for novice cannabis growers.

The product only hit the shelves last week (we covered it here, along with the fact that you can win R1 000 for growing some prime bud), and news has clearly spread.

    This video comes via News24:

Fancy a guess at just how many people are keen to get that starter kit?

Richard Morris, garden centre manager at Starke Ayres in Rosebank, described the response as “absolutely phenomenal”.

“I mean, 25 000 hits literally within two days – we were off the charts. We had three people engaging with customers telephonically – it’s been absolutely crazy,” he told News24…

“The kit is really a brainwave and a pioneering product in allowing people who are non-gardeners – who couldn’t grow a rose at home – to actually buy everything they need in a single item and actually growing it successfully up to a vegetative stage.”

…”It’s now not this hidden underground network all the time – and that’s generally the feedback we’re getting. It’s been empowering and uplifting – I mean most of our client base that are visiting or calling us is the 50-60 category, which is hilarious,” he added.

I think that’s my best bit – all the retirees wanting to cultivate a little homegrown to take the edge off those aches and pains.

The enOrmus Bud starter kits come with starter soil in small pots to aid with the germination process, as well as enOrmus bud microbial food for soil, and some simple instructions for those new to the growing process.

Happy Wednesday, and may your buds always be enormous.
