The ill-informed might think that surfers would be happy to have fewer sharks in the water, but that’s missing the point.

How do we know this? Well, take a look at the baby great white shark rescue that took place in Victoria Bay (we call it Vic Bay, like a local) near George last month.

Surfers and lifeguards who saw the shark stranded on the rocks came together to help with the rescue. Whilst their initial attempts weren’t successful, the video had a happy ending.

    Here’s Joshua Farrer’s account:

In this video my friends and I came out of the water after a morning surf, then we noticed a baby shark struggling by the rocks. A group of us headed down to see what we could do to help the shark, with the help of the life guards that came along. After a few failed attempts to get the shark back out to sea from the rocks we decided to take the shark to a better location. We eventually got the shark back out to sea and saw it swim away 🙂

Well played to everyone in the video below:

Here’s hoping that shark makes it to adulthood, and we get to see more footage of how these magnificent creatures are adapting their hunting techniques in the Western Cape.

Just stay away from the surfers, please.
