  • That New Snapchat ‘Gender-Swap’ Filter Is Causing Havoc On Tinder

Snapchat has slowly been declining in popularity amongst teens, so the app decided to take action.

They released an AR lens that lets you change your appearance to include facial features that are traditionally considered male or female.

Things like facial hair, a widened jawline, shorter hair and so on if you want to appear male, and a narrower jawline, smoother skin and longer hair if you want to appear female.

If social media is anything to go on, the filter seems to be particularly popular amongst men.

While the male-appearing filter on women does work, the female-appearing lens on men is must more realistic, reports Business Insider.

Naturally, people have started using the filter for dodgy purposes – because that’s what people do.

Several men have posted online they’ve created fake Tinder profiles using their computer generated female-appearing faces, and have found success with their catfishing attempts.

What these men didn’t expect was a lesson in how the other half live on dating apps.

These fake Tinder profiles have also brought to light the type of abuse many women are subjected to on dating apps. Some men have begun posting on Twitter about how their female-appearing profiles were inundated with matches and often-vulgar messages from male suitors.

Yeah, I’ve been there, as has every woman who braved the hell that is Tinder. Let’s see the responses:

And a deep dive into Taylor’s inbox on Tinder after he posed as she:

I wonder if Alex really wants to find out what separates Taylor from the other girls.

My fave is “knock knock”… no game at all.

While this is good news for every woman who has wanted men on dating apps to understand just how creepy they’re being, it’s even greater news for Snapchat.

Many on social media have posted saying they’ve re-downloaded Snapchat or created a new account just to be able to use the new filter. In the five days since Snapchat rolled out the new lens filter, seven million people across iPhone and Android have installed the Snapchat app for the first time, according to data from Sensor Tower.
