I’m an unashamed superfan of Downton Abbey.

And by that, I mean I’m an unashamed superfan of Dame Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey.

When the series ended in 2015, we were left with a gap in our series-watching that not even The Queen could fill.

The draw of the show is that it’s soothing, because nothing really happens. If there’s a crisis, it’s usually silverware-related, or easily solved with the help of one of the servants.

Now, to the delight of fans, it’s back.

The official trailer just dropped and the Crawley’s and their dedicated servants are back in the Yorkshire Town, and from the looks of it, it’s obvious that the drama continues on the big screen right where it ended on the small screen.

No news yet on when Downton Abbey will reach South African screens, but it premieres in America on September 20.

If you have thus far managed to avoid watching the show, but you realise the errors of your ways and want to make amends, you’ll find all six seasons on Showmax.
