Brittany Runs a Marathon premiered at the Sundance Film Festival recently, and critics are in love.

The Los Angeles Times thinks it’s “honestly inspiring”, The Wrap says it earns “real tears and big laughs”, and Variety described it as a “slam dunk”.

It’s the relatable tale of a woman trying to get her life back on track, reports Paste Magazine.

    Here’s what you can expect:

New Yorker Brittany Forgler (Jillian Bell, Workaholics) is no stranger to hard partying, toxic relationships and underemployment. Life decides to give Brittany a wake-up call when her doctor advises her she needs to lose weight and get healthy. Too broke to join a gym, too proud to ask for help and inspired by her seemingly perfect neighbor Catherine, Brittany decides to take up running. After gaining a knack for the exercise, Brittany sets a somewhat unthinkable goal for herself: to run the New York City Marathon.

    Check out the trailer:

The plot is relatively simple, but as the trailer shows, it’s been handled carefully and artfully.

In a light-hearted and comical way, the film delves into the topics of body image, self-worth and growing up. The film is an “inspirational story of a party girl who finally finds real friends—and dignity—by taking control of her future, one city block at a time,” according to a press release.

Brittany Runs a Marathon will be in theatres August 23, 2019.
