Unlike many South African sports scribes, Graeme Joffe hasn’t cosied up to our most powerful sporting bodies in exchange for access to athletes and a free lunch.
In 2015, he detailed how he was forced to flee South Africa, and he now resides in the US.
Probably a good thing, too, because SA Rugby president Mark Alexander is still calling for his head.
We should always be a little wary of the claims journalists make when promoting a book of theirs, which is what Joffe is currently doing, but it’s not that hard to believe what he writes (and tweets) about the ‘SA sports mafia’.
You can read his hard-hitting BizNews piece from January, which paints a very unflattering picture of Alexander, here.
As part of his media blitz for SPORT: GREED & BETRAYAL: Wanted for crimes against Journalism, Joffe has been appearing on a number of radio shows and podcasts.
For a succinct overview of what Joffe’s book covers, here’s an interview he did with Bok Radio last Wednesday, June 5:
He has also appeared on the Renegade Report’s podcast this week, telling a story that “implicates dozens of administrators, executives, politicians and journalists”.
This one is a full hour, and some change, so you’ll need to settle in:
Joffe remains in the US, and fears he will never be allowed to return to South Africa.
You can order Graeme’s book online from Amazon.
An earlier version of this story contained tweets by Joffe that referenced Highbury Safika Media. We have removed the tweets from the story, as Joffe is allegedly in contempt of court by doing so.
