We rely on the law and the people who uphold it to make the right choices during an investigation.
But, when someone becomes a suspect in a criminal investigation, especially one that attracts as much media attention as the 1996 Atlanta Olympic park bombings, things can get out of hand.
Clint Eastwood’s new biopic, Richard Jewell, tells the story of an innocent man’s descent from national hero to possible suspect and the effect that it had on his life.
Here’s Variety:
Paul Walter Hauser stars as the real-life security guard whose life turned chaotic after he was listed as a possible suspect in the Olympic Park bombing during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics after he discovered a suspicious abandoned backpack.
Jewell maintained his innocence throughout and was finally fully cleared by the FBI 88 days later, though his reputation was never restored and his health forever damaged.
Jewell was never charged and died in 2007.
