Missing Your Favourite Pizza? Here’s A Simple Way To Make It At Home [Video]

'Basics with Babish' will guide you through making a pizza - which you'll then eat while binge-watching the rest of his cooking channel.

My partner is a cooking enthusiast (you’ll hear no complaints from me), which means that we watch many cooking shows.

The best one we’ve found is Binging with Babish, a show on YouTube dedicated to discovering what the foods from movies, games and television shows actually taste like.

The host, Andrew Rea, is great to watch as he takes on challenges like Ron Swanson’s ‘Turf n’ Turf’ from Parks and Recreation, or the wilder ‘Skinner’s Stew’ from The Simpsons.

Also on the channel, you’ll find Basics with Babish, where he takes you through some simpler staple recipes, like an easy chocolate cake, or pizza.

I’ve been missing pizza since the lockdown began. Most delivery places are out of commission for the time being, so the only solution is to make it at home.

If you’re keen, here’s what you’ll need:

Ingredients & Shopping List

For the Pizza Dough (makes two 10-inch crusts):

  • 16 ounces flour, plus more for work surface
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 11 ounces room temperature water
  • Olive oil

For The Tomato Sauce:

  • 1 28-ounce can of peeled San Marzano tomatoes
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • Dried oregano and basil
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • Olive oil (optional)

Toppings

  • Whatever you want, or:
  • Pepperoni, thinly sliced
  • Full fat mozzarella
  • Fresh basil
  • Freshly grated parmesan, for serving

Here’s Rea to guide you through the process:

If that still seems like a tall order, I hear you.

Besides, no matter how good your homemade pizza is, it probably can’t compare to an expertly made, piping hot, cheesy masterpiece delivered to your door.

Unfortunately, Butler’s Pizza isn’t delivering during lockdown, but as soon as they’re open again, I’ll be taking advantage of their weekly specials, and making up for time spent without the good stuff.

For now, best of luck with your homemade pizzas!
