Christopher Nolan’s movies often require a great deal of concentration, like Inception, and the same can be said for Tenet.

Rather than simply spoonfeeding us the details, the trailer keeps some of the finer points a little vague, with some outlets calling it one of the more mysterious blockbusters in recent times.

The latest trailer actually premiered last Thursday on Fortnite, the video game, and is currently slated for release on July 17.

Here’s the synopsis via Warner Bros.:

John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle “Tenet.”

Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time.

    Not time travel. Inversion.

    Ah, I see.

You may have noticed that Tenet is a palindromic title, which alludes to the concept of time moving back and forth, or inversion.

Maybe we should watch the trailer before we get too in-depth:

Film industry insiders say that the July 17 release date is something of a litmus test for the industry, given the blockbuster nature of the film, and if that date is pushed back, other movies will follow suit.

If you feel like a really close look at each detail of the trailer, the Hollywood Reporter has you covered.
