In the past two days, the bodies of two women have been found in Mtwalume, on KwaZulu-Natal’s south coast.

Since April, that makes five bodies in total, and the local community is worried that there is a serial killer on the loose, despite police playing down the likelihood of that being the case.

The identity of the latest woman has not been released, with police confirming that the body found two days ago was that of 38-year-old Zama Chiliza.

Both Zama, and yesterday’s victim, were found hidden on a sugarcane plantation.

    Here’s TimesLIVE:

Police spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbele said: “The provincial office decided to come here today to check if there were any other bodies. We cannot rule the possibility of a serial killer, but the evidence that we have now does not indicate it’s a serial killer but we are investigating all possible angles.”

Chiliza’s body was discovered on Tuesday morning by the head of the community policing forum, Lucky Bhuyeni.

“The community is shocked by what is happening. Just this weekend we were putting together assistance for the families of the other women who were murdered and have left children behind,” he said.

The bodies of two sisters were found in March, while a third body was found in June.

eNCA filed this report yesterday, talking with Gerard Labuschagne, a former SAPS investigator:
