A manhunt has been launched for shooters driving two VW Polos and a Mercedes-Benz through Benoni, Gauteng, on December 8, following a dramatic car chase and a shootout.

The exchange of gunfire was between criminals armed with weapons including at least two AK-47s, and police, backed up by Ekurhuleni Metro Police

Five people were killed, including three security guards driving a white Toyota bakkie in Kempton Park.

Police spokesperson Capt Kay Makhubele, via TimesLIVE, says that after the exchange of gunfire, three suspects were cornered in Beech Street, Northmead Extension 4.

Two were killed and a third, the driver of a Black VW Polo, was wounded and escorted to hospital by police.

    ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell says:

“Three male security guards were found in the bakkie having suffered fatal gunshot wounds – they were declared dead on arrival.

“A fourth security guard, a 35-year-old male, had run into a nearby shop – he was found to have suffered gunshot wounds to the back and stomach and was in a critical condition.”

A bystander was also found in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the face. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Part of the chase was captured by a home CCTV camera in Benoni. Make sure that the sound is on:
