  • Does This Video Show SAPS Cops Delivering Booze To Somebody’s House?

With last night’s announcement from President Ramaphosa that alert level 3 restrictions will be extended past January 15, booze is once again extremely hot property.

The ‘family meeting’ brought news that a ban on the sale and transportation of alcohol will remain in place.

Hey, at least we have our entjies.

Many South Africans have grown increasingly frustrated with how the SAPS are policing certain aspects of the alert level 3 restrictions, such as access to beaches, whilst other crimes continue to go unpunished.

The SAPS case isn’t bolstered by videos like this, showing an officer dressed in uniform so drunk that he can neither stand, nor string a sentence together.

Now there’s another uproar on social media, with a video doing the rounds that some allege shows a SAPS van delivering alcohol to a private residence.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo has cautioned against drawing too many conclusions, telling The Citizen that the details are unverified:

[Naidoo] said that although ‘it might look like a cop van, it’s not clear’, and that the property where the incident took place could be a police station. It might also not be booze, added the police spokesperson…

“We are trying to be objective,” he said.

At this stage, the police say they are trying to find out where the original video comes from.

Here’s the clip that has set these wheels in motion:

If that video above doesn’t work, you can watch it on Facebook here.

On Twitter, users are accusing SAPS officers of confiscating alcohol which is then used for personal consumption, or sold on to others.

As Brigadier Naidoo points out, there may be a rational explanation, but confidence in our law enforcement is so eroded that the first thought is usually a worst-case scenario one.
