Over the years, Evan Rachel Wood has spoken out about her experiences of sexual and psychological abuse, without naming names.

When the #MeToo movement was at its peak, she joined thousands of women flooding social media with their stories of gender-based violence, saying at the time, that “being raped once made it easier to be raped again. I instinctively shut down”, as part of a series of tweets.

In 2018, in an effort to have the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights passed in all 50 states in the US, she testified about her experiences to a House Judiciary subcommittee.

Now she has come forward, claiming that her abuser was ex-fiancé Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson).

According to TIME, she accused him of subjecting her to “sexual and other physical abuse, alleging she was ‘manipulated into submission’ during their relationship”.

“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” Wood said.

“He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years.”

She was 19 and he was 38 when they started dating in 2007. They were briefly engaged before breaking up.

She continues, via Vanity Fair:

“I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”

In solidarity with Wood, at least four women have come forward with allegations against Manson, including psychological abuse, coercion, sexual assault, violence and intimidation.

Manson responded on Instagram, denying all allegations, without addressing specifics:

This isn’t the first time that Manson has been accused of sexual assault by someone in his social circle.

In 2018, Los Angeles County prosecutors declined to file charges against him dating back to 2011, due to the statutes of limitation in LA.
