HBO Max is making the spines of Game of Thrones fans tingle and hearts race with its newly released first teaser for the highly anticipated GOT prequel, House Of The Dragon.
HBO made a killing off Game of Thrones, so of course, there’s got to be a spin-off.
This might also be a way for the series’ creators to right their wrongs after giving us all a rather disappointing ending after eight seasons of the original series.
The teaser has been unveiled for the new series as part of a promo event for HBO Max’s rollout in Europe and is due to air on an unspecified date next year.
The 10-episode prequel will chronicle the beginning of the end of House Targaryen and the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons, writes Deadline.
Calm your beating heart:
A “tragically obsessed Game of Thrones nerd” over at Mashable did the work of analysing every second of the above video, even though a decent amount of it consists of text on a black background.
Before you get into it, you should know that Matt Smith, who will be playing the king’s brother, Prince Daemon, is the narrator at the start of the teaser, saying: “Gods. Kings. Fire. And blood. Dreams didn’t make us kings. Dragons did.”
Mashable’s analysis breaks down all those parts and reveals hidden clues about what might be coming in the first season of House Of The Dragon.
Here’s a quick snippet:
We know that House of the Dragon is based on George R. R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood, and we know that book documents a violent power struggle between different Targaryen’s vying for the Iron Throne.
This final shot, with its dingy lighting and proliferation of spiky metal, feels like an ominous set-up for the bloodshed that’s surely to come.
Oh yes, bring on the blood.
