Halloween is usually something one does as a kid or for the kids.

But that doesn’t mean that the adults should miss out on some of the fun.

Well, fear not, as we have the grown-up’s trick or treat covered, with an emphasis on ‘treat’.

Even if you’re not getting all dressed up with a Halloween party to throw or go to, these bloody good cocktails are worth getting festive over.

They’re pretty simple, too, (even when they look complicated) so there’ll be less time spent bartending and more time spent treating yourself.

All the spooky cocktails, bar one, requires tonic water to finish it off, for two very applicable reasons.

Firstly, tonic water glows under a black light thanks to the quinine in the soda, according to Kitty Vintage.

Secondly, gin and tonic cocktails have been a thing since the 1700s, which is precisely the time that makes one think of vintage vampires, Frankenstein and witches.

Luckily, Fitch & Leedes can provide all the tonics and ales needed to make these Halloween cocktails the perfect amount of spooky.

We have Town&Country to thank for putting together the ingredients and instructions for the following cocktails:

    Monster Smash

    • 1 shot Vodka
    • A drizzle of simple syrup
    • 1 shot Fitch & Leedes Indian Tonic
    • Juice of 1 lime
    • 5 grapes

    Instructions

    • Muddle grapes in a shaker.
    • Add vodka, simple syrup, lime, and ice, then shake vigorously.
    • Strain over fresh ice and top with tonic water.

    Ingredients

    • 2 shots of silver tequila
    • A drizzle of triple sec
    • Juice of lime juice
    • Half a shot of simple syrup (or agave nectar)
    • 2 shots of Fitch & Leedes Ginger Ale
    • A splash of crème de cassis

    Instructions

    • Shake all ingredients (except the ginger beer and crème de cassis) in a cocktail shaker and strain over ice.
    • Top with ginger beer and stir.
    • Place the lime wheel on top of the cocktail and splash some crème de cassis over the top.

    Squashed Zombie

    Ingredients

    • Half a shot of gin
    • Half a shot of vodka
    • Half a shot of rum
    • Half a shot of triple sec
    • A shot of lemon juice
    • A shot of simple syrup
    • 2 strawberries, muddled

    Instructions

    • In a mixing glass, muddle the strawberries with lemon juice and simple syrup.
    • Add the other ingredients with ice.
    • Shake vigorously and pour contents into a tall glass.
    • Garnish with a strawberry.

Now for something a little bit more intricate and complicated, courtesy of Vintage Kitty:

A Bloody Good Gin and Tonic

    Image: Vintage Kitty

    Eyeball Ingredients

    • 1-2 large tart apples (such as Granny Smith)
    • a handful of small blueberries
    • juice of one lime

Gin and Tonic (per cocktail) Ingredients

    • 1 shot of cherry syrup
    • 2 shots of gin
    • 2 shots of Fitch & Leedes Indian Tonic
    • 1 lime wedges

    Eyeball Instructions

    • Peel an apple, then using a large metal melon baller, cut out eyeballs.
    • Dip balls into the lime juice to prevent oxidation.
    • Using a small sharp object, cut out a circle the size of a blueberry. I used a metal pour spout, but a large-holed piping tip would also work.
    • Pop a blueberry in the hole then slice off the excess using a sharp knife.
    • Use immediately or freeze for later (make sure they don’t touch so they don’t freeze together).

Bloody Good Gin and Tonic Instructions

    • Pour the cherry syrup into the bottom of the glass then fill it with ice.
    • Squeeze a lime wedge into the glass then top with two shots of gin.
    • Finish with the tonic to taste.
    • Garnish with an eyeball- they float, so use a cocktail pick or fork.

If you just want something more simple and fuss-free, then a grapefruit gin and tonic is a solid option, as orange as a Jack-o’-lantern:

That’s right, the Fitch & Leedes Grapefruit Tonic has a sugar-free option now, so you can save some space for all the candy.

Off you go, then. Mix, drink and be scary.
