Jordy Smith lives the good life.

If you can make a living out of doing what you love, then fair play to you.

Jordy’s passion for surfing has taken him to most of the world’s premier surf spots, although the past 18 months have obviously thrown a spanner in the works.

It wasn’t just COVID-19 that entered the fray, with a new series titled Silver Linings covering the incredible highs and devastating lows Jordy has experienced in his life recently.

These include entering fatherhood, surfing incredible waves, and suffering a near career-ending injury which forced him to drop out of the Tokyo Olympics.

    Episode one’s write-up below:

Jordy finds himself locked down in Hawaii when the world begins to shut down. Fortunately, the forecast showed non-stop swells approaching the North Shore where Jordy spends the next 2 weeks scoring firing waves before being forced to board a repatriation flight back to South Africa.

South Africa doesn’t feature in this video, but Jordy does catch some rippers:

Episode two is where the really familiar scenery appears:

Jordy finds himself on a long return home to spend the winter in South Africa for the first time in 14 years. The surf at home didn’t disappoint, “I swear you don’t want to be anywhere else in the world than right there.”

    Observe:

There are worse jobs in the world, and worse places to call home.

Jordy isn’t the only local surfer making waves at the moment. Based in Kommetjie, Matt Bromley’s travels have taken him around the globe to popular spots like Hawaii, California, Indonesia, and Ireland.

In a new doccie, Over the Edge, Matt takes on the world-renowned Jaws, a big wave spot on Maui in Hawaii.
