It looks like Princess Charlene celebrated her 44th birthday alone, or just privately, on Tuesday.

That’s because the Princess of Monaco is still in an addiction treatment facility at an undisclosed location outside Monaco.

She posted on social media for the first time this year, though, sharing a touching tribute made by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation South Africa to honour her on her birthday.

The royal’s initiative made a video that featured all the highlights of her life, Hello Magazine reported, from her childhood and her time as an Olympic swimmer through to her life as a Monaco royal and mother of two.

Charlene had a tough 2021, being separate from her seven-year-old twins and husband for most of the time while struggling with an ear, nose, and throat infection that required several surgeries.

Grounded in South Africa, she was unable to return to Monaco for half a year, and then in November, as she returned briefly, she left the country again for the treatment of an undisclosed illness.

Around Christmas, per Royal Central, the Palace confirmed that her recovery was going “encouragingly”, when Prince Albert brought her twins, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, to visit.

Prince Albert also mentioned that his wife was “recuperating in a satisfactory and reassuring manner”, but that she would have to stay in treatment.

At the moment, no one has said when she will make a full recovery.
