The tail of a British Airways jet almost touched the ground when strong winds pushed it to the side as it tried to land at Heathrow Airport on Monday.
Plane spotters from Big Jet TV captured the moment the jet had a little wobble before the pilot quickly aborted the landing, taking the plane and its passengers back into the sky once more.
Storm Corrie is to blame for the intense winds that interfered with this plane’s flight schedule, which probably made the pilot and crew shvitz.
Rightfully so, as the storm was no joke, bringing winds of 148 kilometres per hour in parts of Scotland and the North Sea while leaving more than 45 000 homes without electricity.
On Saturday, as Storm Malik took hold, a young boy and an older woman were killed after trees were torn down in Staffordshire and Aberdeen respectively.
So I guess it was something of a miracle that the jet came out unscathed:
It’s the panicked “EASY, EASY, EASY” for me.
Apparently, the little contact that the plane did make with the ground created a cloud of what aviation enthusiasts like to call plane dust.
It looked less innocuous than that, though.
In the end, The Guardian reported that the second landing attempt for Flight BA1307 from Aberdeen was successful.
A British Airways spokesperson also offered assurance that their pilots are highly trained to manage a range of scenarios, including extreme weather conditions, and that the flight landed with no problems in the end.
Close call, though, hey?
