Google co-founder Sergey Brin used to be pretty good friends with Elon Musk.

But then Musk allgedly had an affair with his wife.

As soon as Brin heard that his wife had been bedded by his buddy, he instructed his advisers to sell his personal investments in Musk’s companies. Fair enough.

These allegations have been put in the spotlight by sources who spoke with The Wall Street Journal, stating that the liaison between Musk and Nicole Shanahan took place in early December at a high-profile Art Basel event in Miami.

Sources told the WSJ that Brin and Shanahan were separated but still living together at the time, and had filed for divorce earlier this year, citing “irreconcilable differences”, per The Verge.

Musk has denied the alleged affair and assured people that he is still friends with Brin, claiming the report is based only on “third-party random hearsay”.

Musk is still the world’s richest person with a $253 billion fortune, according to Forbes’ real-time billionaire tracker, while Brin is the ninth-wealthiest, with a net worth of $89,9 billion:

Brin offered the Musk-owned Tesla $500,000 in funding during the 2008 recession, and Musk returned the favor by making Brin one of the first customers to own the Model X in 2015.

Sources tell the WSJ that Musk went so far as to get on one knee and beg Brin for his forgiveness during a party earlier this year. The report claims the two still aren’t speaking on a frequent basis, and that Brin has told advisers to sell his personal investments in Musk’s companies.

Granted, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO has a rather colourful private life, but this is still somewhat shocking.

Although we won’t go as far as The Daily Mail, calling this situation “the most colossal act of personal treachery in the history of the billionaire boys’ club”.

Naturally, Musk took to Twitter:

He also took the opportunity to let the world know that he has not been laid in a while:

Someone then asked, “not even on the vacation?” (he’s been enjoying Greece without a shirt recently), to which Musk replied with a casual “nope”. Good to know.

While Musk is juggling his many “libidinous eruptions… such that they virtually require a colour-coded PowerPoint” (good old Daily Mail again – they’ve outlined all Musk’s past antics, if you need a refresher), Brin and Shanahan are currently negotiating a settlement.

According to the WSJ, Shanahan is seeking an over $1 billion slice of Brin’s fortune.
