Once there was a pill for everything, and now there’s an app for everything.
What a time to be alive.
Sleep, or the lack thereof, seems to be the area of life that requires the most intervention, so you can bet your bottom dollar that there are sleep apps for daaaaays.
As Mashable so eloquently puts it, “there are adventure apps, sleep apps, education apps, sleep apps, mental health apps, food apps, sleeeep apppppps. Yeah, you get the point.”
Point made, and we will thus be sharing just one sleep app from the list of the 22 most useful free iPhone apps, according to Reddit users.
On the opposite end of the Zzzzs is A for action, so we’ll start off with one for the mountain-lovers.
This app offers details about over 100 000 trails all over the world, providing a handy guide for adventurers looking for the running, hiking, and biking path most taken.
It’s also nifty in providing information one might need before ascending, like difficulty level, elevation, length, and whether dogs and kids can come, too.
App users can also post pictures of the trails and leave comments and reviews for other users to check out.
For the meal-preppers and foodies, we have Mealime. This recipe app lets the user enter information about their tastes and diet goals before recommending recipes that correspond to said information.
Its ability to streamline recipes to a user’s preferences allows you to save plenty of time on deciding what to eat – because food heaven knows, we have way too many drool-worthy options in Cape Town.
Next up is one for those inspired by the James Webb Space Telescope and wanting to train their eyes to better understand the great, starry expanse around us.
Simply point your phone at the sky and have this stargazing app tell you exactly what’s up there. It’ll show you individual stars, constellations, planets, and even satellites.
There is a world of wonder on the ground, too. For that, Reddit recommends iNaturalist.
Take pictures of plants and animals and the app will provide suggestions as to what species they are by using “visually similar suggestions and verification by dedicated contributors,” according to the app description.
Too many people know more brand names than plant names – don’t be one of those people.
Alright, back to that sleep conversation and A Soft Murmur. This is a lovely little background noise app hosting the sound of thunder, rain, wind, and more:
You can combine different sounds and control the volume of each, at your disposal to use for whatever reason, like studying or work accompaniment or, you guessed it, sleep.
For more handy apps – quite a few to do with bettering your brain and education, and also sleep – head here.
Just mellow out and enjoy the world through your screen, it’s inevitable.
