Autotrader has released its 2022 mid-year car industry report, providing insights into how car consumers have been changing their behaviour – which is to say they haven’t completely changed.
The report covers searches from the classifieds site between January and June 2022, finding that the top three most searched for models attracted 11,6% of all model searches.
This was up from the 9,4% experienced in the first half of 2021, pointing to how customer behaviour has reverted back to pre-lockdown, reported BusinessTech.
The most searched-for model was the Toyota Hilux, with 4,3% of the total search share (12,6 million searches):
In fact, the Toyota Hilux was also the most-enquired-on car overall, marking it clearly as the pre-owned car that Saffas are the most interested in purchasing.
The second most searched-for model was the Volkswagen Golf, with 3,9% of the total search share (11,3 million):
Third was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, garnering 3,4% of the total search share (9,9 million):
Overall, Volkswagen was the most-searched-for automotive brand in the first half of the year, with the VW Golf GTI the most-searched-for vehicle model, while the Toyota Hilux was the most-searched-for vehicle range.
AutoTrader noted that model-based searches are still the most popular of all search types on the platform:
Nice to see that South African motorists are consistent in their car choices.
