In and around Cape Town, the weather this weekend perhaps wasn’t as bad as initially suspected after the South African Weather Service issued a number of warnings.
Yes, there were downpours but every now and again the sun poked through and the biggest damp squib turned out to be the Springbok performance against the All Blacks.
We’ll do our best to avoid mentioning that from here on out.
Residents of Velddrif, which is about 150 kilometres up the West Coast from Cape Town, were treated to a rather unusual sighting on Saturday.
A waterspout, which then became a tornado, swept through the coastal town.
In a post showing the damage after the dust had settled, Storm Report SA says the “tornado started out as a Waterspout but made landfall soon after”.
Before we get to that, did anybody see this funnel cloud closer to Cape Town on Friday afternoon?
The real action took place the following day, with two videos sent to Storm Report SA:
This is by far the best video of the lot due to the running commentary.
Cool, hey? Tall, hey? OMG!
Towards the end of the video, you can actually see the waterspout make landfall.
Images posted here show that multiple homes were damaged.
