The fall is just around the corner, and it’s high time to get your wardrobe ducks in a row. And by ducks, we, of course, mean layers.

Layering is the secret to a comfortable and fashionable fall, and one of the key pieces you need is a crewneck tee. It’s versatile and timeless, feels good on the skin, and looks great under everything from blazers to hoodies to cardigans.

Need some ideas on how to layer it for the ultimate stylish guy fall? We’ve got you covered.

    Layering is easy

Layering is no rocket science. The first thing to remember when layering your crewneck tees is staying simple. You don’t need to wear multiple items at once to look stylish.

The other second thing is that you don’t need to spend a fortune on expensive new items because you only need a few high-quality tees (we love the crew necks by Fresh Clean Threads) and a good look in your closet.

You will likely find quite a few pieces there, such as button-down shirts, jackets, and knits you can easily layer to create fresh looks.

    The fabrics and textures

The key to layering well is matching fabrics. The reason a cotton or cotton-poly crewneck t-shirt is so great is that most other fabrics or their textures will work perfectly with it.

You can easily create contrast with thick or thin knits, rough flannel shirts, wool blazers, and denim pieces. The contrast in textures is essential for monochrome or neutral looks to avoid looking like you’re wearing a uniform.

    Layering colours

Whether you want to mix and match or pair different shades of the same colour, plan the layers so you don’t end up looking too… noisy. And never combine different patterns or prints!

Our best advice is to get a few neutral crewneck tees in black, white, navy, grey, and other neutral colours and always have the perfect canvas for additional layers.

So, if you want to look brighter, pair your white tee with, e.g., a red blazer, and if you wish to look more toned down, the same white tee will work well with your grey cardigan. That’s versatility!

    Foolproof ideas

Generally, you have two or three layers you need to think about. Two layers will be enough when it’s warmer, and three will be ideal for cold or unstable weather.

    Here are some simple ideas.

Tee + shirt + jacket or blaze

Layer your base crewneck tee with a button-down shirt (opt for a thicker fabric like, e.g., chambray) and finish with a blazer. You can easily take the blazer off if it gets warm, but you can also remove the shirt and sport a tee under the jacket!

Depending on the colours, textures, and patterns, this can be both casual and smart-casual. If you choose a plain navy button-down and blazer, you can wear this to the office, and a lumberjack flannel shirt and a denim jacket are ideal for the pub!

Tee + knitwear + coat or parka

For cooler days, layer a cardigan or a sweater on your crewneck and top it with a coat. This look is perfect for long walks in the park or a date exploring the city.

Opt for neutral autumnal colours and high-quality fabrics to create a stylish outfit and play with different thicknesses of your knits (we love chunky ones!).

If you’d like to take it down a notch, swap the coat for a parka!

Tee + suit + coat or trenchcoat

Another smart casual look we love is a tee with a suit and a coat. You’re basically swapping your button-down shirts for extra comfort and style points.

Wear a classic business or a warm wool coat, and then choose either a camel, grey or black coat or trenchcoat, depending on the weather! Isn’t that dapper?
