I don’t know about you, but monsters very much existed in dark closets and under the bed when I was a kid.
My imagination was once so vivid and fear so acute that I swear I saw The Boogyman move outside the window one night.
Sometimes I wish I could still translate my fear of abandonment and anxiety in the dark into something as tangible as an androgynous beast, but alas, as an adult, I have to sit with the demons inside myself.
I won’t, however, thank Stephen King for bringing these childhood fears to life in his latest supernatural horror thriller The Boogeyman.
Based on Stephen King’s short story of the same name, The Boogeyman follows high school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair and Sophie Thatcher) as they deal with the recent death of their mother, Mashable notes.
They aren’t getting much support from their father (Will played by Chris Messina), “a therapist who is dealing with his own pain”, reads the official synopsis, “when a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims”.
You’re going to want to leave all the lights on for this one:
The Boogeyman creeps into theatres on June 2.
Load shedding is going to be even more of an issue after watching this movie.
