  • The Coffee That Everyone In Cape Town Can’t Get Enough Of

Are you even a real Cape Townian if you don’t have a favourite coffee spot?

I’ll take that sass up a notch and ask, are you even a real person if you don’t need to drink a deep cup of caffeine in the morning?

Don’t tell me you prefer tea, or kombucha – tell Rob van Vuuren so that he can roast you with his wacky Namaste Bae blessings.

For those who appreciate the grind, coffee is where it’s at.

Frankly speaking, there is only one local grinder with the finest hand-selected coffee bean varieties, blended and roasted in-house daily to standards high enough for multiple visits and sips a week.

That’ll be from the okes who like to quip “more coffee, more better” in an appropriately jittery font – Deluxe Coffeeworks.

With five Deluxe branded cafés in and around Cape Town (as well as two in Namibia and one in the UK), there’s no excuse not to get the coffee works going.

You’ll find two in Gardens, one in the Bo-Kaap, and one on Church Street in the CBD, while there is also an outlet in Stellenbosch and another in Paarden Eiland.

If you’re not the type to step outside much, fear not, for Deluxe offers home subscriptions, allowing you to get their House Blend – with beans from Guatemala, Ethiopia, and Brazil – delivered straight to your door.

The subscription allows you to choose either a 250-gram or one-kilogram bag, how often you want it delivered, and which grind you prefer – be it Whole Beans, Espresso, Home Espresso, Moka Pot / Aeropress, Plunger, and Filter.

Add to your cart, have it delivered, and avoid being that person who hasn’t had their morning cuppa when the first work Zoom call rolls in.

The best part is that they also have a compostable capsule that allows you to enjoy Deluxe coffee anywhere, any time, in seconds:

In collaboration with 4WKS, the Deluxe Cap is compatible with Nespresso® machines and is 100% compostable, with no plastic or aluminium.

They’re made from an innovative plant-based bio-material, sealed with a vegetable fibre lid, and branded with edible (cake!) ink.

    Nifty.

When composted, these caps can break down in a matter of weeks and even if it lands in a landfill, they’ll break down hundreds of times faster than plastic or aluminium capsules.

To ensure they’re composted correctly (and effectively turned into compost), Deluxe is working with 4WKS on collection points at any of the cafés dotted around the city. Watch the space.

As they like to say, great coffee, great convenience, with the only guilt being more pleasure.

Get yourself a pack of 30 4WKS x Deluxe Coffee Capsules Refill Pods for a cool R270.

While you’re at it, try out their new Tanzania Malipo Maalum:

This incredible coffee is sourced from various smallholder farms in Tanzania’s Mbeya, Mbozi, and Mbinga communities.

It offers a sweet and well-rounded coffee experience with dominant notes of caramel, red berries, and allspice while a sweet and complex taste finishes the sip off.

    Yes. All the yesses.
