    Suck it, Tesla.

Lucid Motors unveiled its newest Air Grand Touring Performance EV at the Mobile World Congress in Spain recently. While Elon was slowly smothering Twitter with a pillow, his competitors built a car that has a 1,111 horsepower engine and a range of over 800km. The car’s fast charging system lets it add 321km to its normal range in approximately 12 minutes of charging.

Lucid Motors is obviously in the luxury car market and may not be much of a threat to its more accessible competitors, but its CEO, Peter Rawlinson believes they are more than just an electric car.

“Lucid Air Grand Touring epitomises the promise of the Lucid brand – a triumvirate of industry-leading range and efficiency, stellar driving dynamics, and luxurious interior space.”

Don’t worry, I also had to look up ‘triumvirate’. The newest addition to the Grand Touring series will set you back about R3.3 million, but it looks worth it. It is fitted with a transparent glass canopy, 21-speaker Surreal Sound Pro sound system, and 20-way massaging seats. The makers call this ‘vault-silent luxury’.

Rapid acceleration is possible as the EV produces up to 1,111 horsepower (828kW) thanks to its dual-motor all-wheel drive system.

Lucid seems to be on a roll after recently dominating both the Tesla Model S, Bugatti Chiron, and even a Ducati with their Lucid Air Sapphire. Its recorded take-off from 0-100 in under 2 seconds might have made Tesla a little nervous. Musk was all bluster when he declared Lucid ‘on the verge of death’,  as noted in Elektrek. Reaching a top speed of 321km/h however, is nowhere near death. Check out the battle below:

Lucid also has the advantage of having Tesla already proving to investors that the EVs market can be profitable. Plus, Tesla has become a bit blehh these days, so it’s good to see other EV companies stepping up.
