A video has emerged of a man and woman involved in an altercation at Starbucks in Eastgate Mall, Johannesburg.

The CCTV footage was shared on Twitter by anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, who said the woman was assaulted because the man mentioned how long she was staying at the Starbucks.

The timestamp of the video shows that the incident took place on Monday morning.

Apparently, when the unnamed man confronted the woman about staying “too long” in the establishment, he wagged a finger in her face, which is when she retaliated.

Then came the slaps (from her) and kicks (from him). Have a look:

That was a Starbucks employee who casually broke the pair up towards the end.

With over 500 00o views already, IOL reports that the video made folks on Twitter debate about who started the little fight and therefore, who was the guilty party.

“The man defended himself against a Karen. If he wanted to assault her, it would have been more gruesome than what we see. According to the footage, she attacked, and he defended. She should go to jail for (attempted) GBH (grievous bodily harm) [sic],” @maxwellmodiba said.

@TMbuzi said life was no soapie: “She laid her hands at the gent. Never ever lay your hands on anyone because they’ll retaliate. Life isn’t some soapy [sic]”.

However, @TJContinue felt there was no need for the man to become physical: “She pushed his hand away, and still no excuse to abuse from his side, stop making or looking for excuses for bad behavior [sic]”.

Meanwhile, other tweeps made sense of the situation by saying that both parties were in the wrong and could be equally charged with assault.

Others suggest that nobody should be attacking anyone ever, no matter what, and should rather try breathing in and out before walking away.

If only people were that equipped.
