There’s been a lot of grisly deaths going around lately, but this must be one of the strangest suicides ever.
The death of a Texas airport worker who was sucked into a jet engine Friday night has been ruled a suicide by authorities.
27-Year-old David Renner died of blunt and sharp force injuries at San Antonio International Airport after being ingested into a jet engine. According to NYPost a medical examiner has now indicated that the death pointed to suicide.
Emergency crews discovered the horrific scene after responding to reports of a ground worker that was “ingested” into the engine of the Delta plane that had just landed from Los Angeles.
“Delta Flight 1111 was taxying to the gate, with one engine on at that time, and a worker was ingested into that engine at 10:25 p.m.”
On New Year’s Eve, Alabama airport worker Courtney Edwards was fatally sucked into the engine of an American Airlines regional carrier flight at Montgomery Regional Airport.
As horrifying as these deaths are, it is not entirely uncommon and history is littered with similar incidents.
One of the most famous incidents occurred during the Persian Gulf War and almost resulted in a fatal accident. The below video shows the moment Petty Officer J.D. Bridges was sucked into an engine while checking the launch mechanism of an aircraft.
Amazingly the deck crew member was stuck inside the engine intake for three minutes but managed to come out practically unscratched.
