The area around the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) has been abuzz all week, with Africa’s first Netball World Cup finally happening today.

All eyes are on South Africa, but now, very unfortunately, a little less thanks to netball’s finest doing their thing on the squeaky courts installed at the CTICC and more on the complaints coming from some players.

On the eve of the Netball World Cup, a few members of the Jamaican team were left bewildered and afraid following an alleged theft in Cape Town, reported The Citizen.

The captain of the Sunshine Girls, Jhaniele Fowler, posted on social media that she had been robbed:

This shameful situation happened right before her team’s opening World Cup match against Sri Lanka today.

Fowler was even contributing to sports development in the province by promoting the game of netball among the local youth just before the tournament kicked off.

Another Jamaica teammate Shamera Sterling reacted to Fowler’s post, suggesting that she was ready to leave SA before the tournament had even started:

    What a pity.

A total of 16 teams are set to compete at the 10-day quadrennial showpiece, with all matches taking place at the CTICC.

Hopefully, nobody else will be forced to confront more criminal antics.
