On the cusp of its third anniversary, Top Gear South Africa has unveiled its very own test track facility nestled within the Brakpan/Benoni Airfield in Gauteng.
Borrowing a page from the iconic BBC Top Gear playbook, this move marks a watershed moment, as it becomes the first-ever facility of its kind beyond the UK.
Spanning an expansive 3.5 kilometres, the new track serves as a creative canvas for our local motoring enthusiasts to rev up their content portfolios.
With a controlled environment at their disposal, SA’s Top Gear editorial team can now craft uniquely South African motoring narratives on their very own track. This means that these professional petrolheads can up the ante of their publication with high-level stunts.
From tire-burning straight-line acceleration tests to flawlessly timed laps, from gravity-defying braking trials to elegant weight transitions, every aspect is meticulously orchestrated. The fruit of these laborious tests culminates in the unveiling of the TopGear SA Fastest Lap board, an emblem of vehicular supremacy. Slow-pokes need not apply!
Lerato Matebese, publishing editor for Clipping Point Publishing, reflected on this monumental move, stating:
“The inauguration of the Top Gear SA test track is a triumph for our growth strategy. It provides us with a meticulously controlled environment to scrutinize each car’s bone-stock performance, elevating car debates from the braai to a new echelon of precision.”
Avon Middleton, another proud member of the publishing house, added:
“This exclusive facility encapsulates the essence of the Top Gear brand. With it, we aim to infuse even more exhilarating and captivating content into the South African automotive narrative, enthralling audiences with every twist and turn.”
As TopGear South Africa vroom-vrooms into this new chapter, we couldn’t be more excited for all the burning rubber to come.
Time to put the pedal to the metal!
