While browsing online for a new 2OV head office, we happened on this gorgeous private island, off the coast of Bluefields, Nicaragua, which is listed for sale at a very reasonable price of $475,000 (R9 million).
Now this may seem like a lot of money to most people, but it’s a remarkable illustration of just how bonkers local house prices have become. But before we get weepy about our ZAR, we have to ask if there is a catch, because well, it’s a private island… in the Caribbean… for the same price as a bare plot in Camps Bay.
The island is called Iguana Island and spans an area of five acres (20,200 square metres). It features a main house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a dining room, a bar and a living area.
The island is also equipped with a backup generator for power and a water catchment system adds to the island’s self-sufficiency. TV and internet services are obviously also available (thanks Starlink!).
Check it out:
The catch? There is none. But if this is too tropical for you, there is always this 0,1 acre (525 square metres) empty plot in Camps Bay that costs R 8.9 million, although it doesn’t have so much as a palm tree on it.
It is within walking distance of Caprice though, so that’s as good as a private beach. Kind of.
