There was a ripple in the fabric of social media this week when the UK fashion brand Shtreetwear posted a photo of Big Ben wearing a yellow The North Face puffer jacket on their X account.
The eleven-second clip showed people taking pictures of the historic landmark wearing a big-ass jacket. Amongst the crowd, someone was heard saying, “That’s insane! That’s mad! Definitely get a pic of that.”
Pretty cool, right? Of course, it is, except the whole thing was fake. North Face themselves weren’t even part of the ruse. That didn’t stop the tweet from reaching 25 million views, and you’ll likely already find it on LinkedIn under a ‘leadership’ or ‘struggle’ post – keep an eye out.

X was the first to burst the awed bubble with a community note under the post that simply read:
“Video has been altered using CGI. There’s no North Face Campaign post about this.”
The party poopers at X also included links to The North Face’s official accounts to prove that they did not have an advertising campaign that involved turning Big Ben into a Minion. The brand still hasn’t responded to the viral video on any of its official accounts, perhaps choosing to let this one slide. It’s after all awesome advertising.

Maybe K-Way could slip some colourful fleece over those towers on the slopes of Table Mountain – for real. It’s good advertising for them, and they’d be doing us all a favour. Don’t believe everything you see on social media these days people.
