A courageous baby buffalo was caught on camera chasing a large elephant, proving that with enough confidence and conviction, tiny can be mighty.
The footage was shared by the Kruger’s Latest Sightings, with the scene taking place somewhere in the Kruger National Park. Latest Sightings shared the video on X with the caption “Baby buffalo shows the elephant who’s boss!”
You can hear how the person who captured the rare scene was very excited to do so. We don’t blame her, this is the cutest little confrontation ever:

I am actually so impressed with the elephant’s backwards running skills – so elegant for something so chunky.
As the momma buffalo remains close behind watching its baby, obviously concerned for its safety, the elephant skidaddles backwards as it seems to be trying to avoid contact. It even trumpets its sentiment as the encounter mercifully concludes.
Other elephants encountering baby buffalos haven’t been as merciful, though.
Another young buffalo found itself in the wrong place at the wrong time, as an angry elephant in a bad mood and a desperate search for water was attacking anything in its path.
Ros shared this sighting with Latest Sightings when he witnessed it in the northern Kruger National Park.
Trigger warning if you’re not keen on wildlife being this metal:
Dry conditions in the bush can be brutal for many animals, especially elephants. Elephants require close to 100 litres of water per day, so when there isn’t much water around, elephants become highly stressed out and their behaviour changes drastically.
This elephant must have seriously high-stress levels to want to maul the poor buffalo as it sat near a watering hole. The competition for resources is no joke, especially when supply is low.
