The Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games star Natalie Dormer, who is the lead cast member of the new M-net crime thriller White Lies, loved her experience filming in Cape Town.

The series is set in the fancy suburb of Bishopscourt, described as dissecting an “inward-looking, affluent community, structured around a very personal psychological and emotional journey, in the vein of binge-able shows like Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects,” per the press release.

The series, starring South African actor Brendon Daniels, revolves around themes of crime, drugs, social inequality, power, and privilege.

Journalist Edie Hansen (Dormer) gets caught up in the Cape’s ugly underworld after her brother is murdered in the wealthy southern suburb, a description of the show reads.

“Dragged back into her tumultuous childhood, Edie’s investigation soon puts her at loggerheads with veteran detective Forty Bell (Daniels). [This] forces her to grapple with the crumbling local police force, a corrupt political system, and the secretive world of extreme wealth.”

The eight-part series is on M-Net.

Expressing her admiration for the place and its people to The Citizen, Dormer said they shot in some really beautiful places, adding that for the three months of filming, “I was just exposed to all the colour and texture of Cape Town”.

“Cape Town is such a spectacular city. We were in the inner city and the beauty and texture, but also the grit and the dirt of some of the areas of Cape Town, the full diverse mix of everything, the mountains and the sea, was just spectacular.”

Besides expressing her appreciation for Cape Town’s scenery, another moment that stood out to her during the filming of White Lies was her on-screen chemistry with co-star Daniels.

“There were so many good killer scenes just because of the dramatic nature of the show, and it was a great ensemble cast. I have great affection for my scenes with Brendan Daniels. He’s a fantastic actor, and playing that relationship of Forty and Edie and the way it grows was really just a joy,” she told The Citizen.

In her spare time, Natalie said she managed to squeeze in a safari trip:

“I didn’t get a lot of time for obvious reasons but I managed to go on a Safari. I went to the Little Karoo and also visited Sanbona Wildlife Reserve. I had an amazing time there. It was a very intense shoot as people would understand,” she said.
