A scary video is doing the rounds that shows the moment an ambulance exploded in a fireball seconds after dropping off an elderly patient in Staffordshire, UK.
The elderly lady’s neighbours, who were having a quiet cuppa tea on the stoep, had to dive for cover as the exploding ambulance sent debris flying all over the neighbourhood. Fortunately, the old lady was already safe inside her house.
Footage shows two care workers wheeling the woman to her home in Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, on March 14. One of the carers can be seen checking the ambulance after a worried passerby spots smoke pouring from the engine and alerts them.
Minutes later, the ambulance exploded with such force the ambulance roof was ripped off and flew 15 metres into the air, before crashing through the neighbour’s garage. Firefighters dashed to the scene and managed to extinguish the flames before they spread to neighbouring properties.
Luckily, no one was injured in the blast, but there was some damage to the houses and both gardens were toast. The neighbours, with their morning Earl Grey now completely forgotten, said the explosion was “like a Hollywood movie”.
“It was like a Hollywood movie. I suffer with my nerves and it didn’t do me any good. I keep having flashbacks. There was nothing left of the ambulance and all the bits of it like a volcano were flying off like glass and started burning our nets. It’s horrible to talk about.”
“The heat was so bad the back of our car literally melted. We just want the insurance company to hurry up so we can repair our home.”
Watch it go boom:
