The millionaire parents of one teen gang member accused of murdering his 16-year-old peer on Halloween weekend last year allegedly helped cover his tracks.
Preston Lord (above) died of a brain injury in the hospital two days after being beaten on October 28, 2023, in Arizona at a Halloween Party, Queen Creek police previously announced. After a months-long investigation, his death was ruled a homicide and police have since charged seven suspects, including six teenagers, with first-degree murder and kidnapping.
One of the suspects, Talan Renner, 17, was allegedly taken to his family’s cabin three hours away from where he lived after the deadly fight.
According to the police report, which is more than 1,100 pages, the ex-girlfriend of Renner’s father alleged to authorities that the teen was “full of rage” and an “angry kid”, also claiming that Renner was taken to the cabin to allow time for his hands to heal.
The alleged killer jock apparently outed himself a few times, boasting of his successful murder:
Renner allegedly wrote in a text message dated Oct. 28, “Got in a fight…killed a kid..guess I don’t know my own strength,” KPNX reports, citing to the police report. According to Fox 10 Phoenix, someone also told police on Nov. 4 that Renner allegedly told a friend that he threw the initial punch that started the beating of Lord.
The Daily Mail also cites police records alleging one unnamed boy danced on the dying teen’s body shortly after the beating, while others performed ‘humping’ – simulated rape acts – to further degrade their victim.
Citing police records, reports note that multiple people told authorities that Renner’s family had “the financial means to aid in fleeing to Mexico”. The former employee at Relentless Media Agency told Arizona Republic that her bosses Travis Renner (Talan’s dad) and Adam Kifer, CEO of Relentless Media Agency, openly discussed their plans to hide evidence and shift blame on another boy with a ‘similar name.’
In a text exchange allegedly involving [suspect Taylor] Sherman and an unidentified person, a message reads, “Talan killed someone with his hands,” 12 News reports.
Sickeningly, despite Renner being a person of interest in Lord’s murder, his football coach at American Leadership Academy Gilbert North reportedly still allowed him to play in a November 17 football game and even named him player of the game a day later. The coach has since been terminated, according to the outlet.
Snapchat, videos, pictures, phone calls and texts from October 28 allowed investigators to piece together the night, with damning evidence against all seven suspects. The additional six suspects charged in connection with Lord’s death are Talyn Vigil, 17, William Owen Hines, 18, Dominic Turner, 20, Taylor Sherman, 19, Treston Billey, 18, and Jacob Meisner, 17 – who have all pleaded not guilty. In addition to the murder and kidnapping charges, Turner, Meisner and Billey are also charged with aggravated robbery.
Police said in the report that the attack on Lord allegedly took place after the theft of a necklace from one of Lord’s friends, and believe none of the suspects knew Lord before his death.
These kids were all apparently a part of a street gang called the ‘Gilbert Goons’ and were often seen rampaging, robbing and beating people through Snapchat or in person.
The Renners are a troublesome bunch, as well. Renner’s other son Kyler is said to be a violent bully too. He has been charged in connection with two separate gang attacks at a parking garage and a house party in 2022.
Travis Renner was also arrested in January on suspicion of drug possession and paraphernalia charges while his son Kyler was taken into custody over the gang violence claims.
Monsters breed monsters. Hopefully, the whole Renner family can be put away for good.
