Thabo Mbeki Disagrees With Woolworths And Urges Israeli Product Boycott

Former president Thabo Mbeki has said that South Africans need to boycott Israeli-sourced products to help with the Palestinian people's dire situation.

Former president Thabo Mbeki is firmly for boycotting Israeli-sourced goods in South Africa in protest of Gaza-Israel war.

Mbeki urged South Africans to to do what they can to help stunt Israel and force the country to “pay a price for the position that it is taking”. South African presidents of past have been known to always support Palestine.

This puts the stance of the political figure against that of many local retailers, including Woolworths, who have said that they will continue stocking Israeli-sourced products, to an extent that is.

“We only source food abroad – in accordance with government regulations – when local products are out of season,” Woolworths said.

Pick ‘n Pay is also one of the stores being hit as many Muslim customers have banded to boycott its products saying that the chain supports Israel. However, Pick ‘n Pay says it has “always adopted a strictly non-political stance”.
