Tired of buying knockoff brands and then your friends point and laugh?

A Japanese tech company called NEC is busy developing a special camera lens that will KNOW.
It would work by using what NEC calls “object fingerprint authentication.” The texture of zippers and fastens on these kinds of products are unusual enough — like fingerprints — that a close look could show you the difference between the real deal and a knockoff.
How does it work?
The lens attaches to your smartphone and works with its built-in camera technology to get super-detailed images of surface patterns. When you snap the photo, it compares the picture with a database of product “fingerprints.”
Absolutely genius. It will work with a whole host of other products, too, like sewing machines and objects too small for serial numbers.
Because we are ALL worried about faux sewing machines…
