With an exclusive New Year’s party held for an intimate group of international celebrities, and another feature in the prestigious Financial Times Weekend, South Africa’s most expensive property to ever go on sale is expected to change hands imminently.
According to a source close to the owners of the property, Enigma mansion was rented over new year to a group of international celebrities, who entertained South Africa’s rich and famous for three days.
“The owner has been inundated with enquiries, following the 2014 / 2015 season exposure to this group. And with the recent article in the FT Weekend, they are now entertaining a number of serious offers.”
According to the Financial Times, the price tag for Enigma is R172 million, which seems reasonable, given the income the owner seems to be receiving from high-end video / still shoots like this one below.
In 2014, 39 “trophy” properties in Cape Town sold for more than R20m each, representing a total value of just under R1.2bn ($102m), compared with just 25 “trophy” sales worth a total of R712m in 2013, according to Seeff Property Services.
The average sale at the top end of the Atlantic Seaboard, with includes the suburbs of Camps Bay, Clifton, Bantry Bay and Fresnaye, is about R31m, up from R29m in 2013, the agency adds.
