Between the refugee crisis in Europe, pushed into extremes by the war in Syria, which was in turn a result of the damaging effects of global warming, the World Press Photo 2016 judges have had a lot of ranging subjects of photographs on which they’ve had to deliberate long and hard for the winners in each category.
To add to that, there were the Paris attacks, the devastating earthquake in Nepal and the clashes in the US set off by police shootings. Here a few of them:
