Isn’t it odd how in rugby, cricket and just about every other sport in the world rival fans sit in amongst each other and watch the game without resorting to violence?
Then there’s football, where supporters must be kept apart by stewards and fences for fear of violence erupting at any given point. Take for example that above from Serbia, where Red Star faced off against Partisan a year ago yesterday.
Here’s how VICELAND describes the scenes on YouTube:
One year ago today, VICELAND went to Serbia and saw a forty-minute stadium riot before the Red Star vs Partizan game. In Serbia, one thing has endured communism and civil war: The Eternal Derby. Each year, a soccer rivalry tears Belgrade apart, where gameplay is overshadowed by “Ultra” fan violence.
West Ham might be blowing bubbles, but over in Serbia they’re operating on a whole different level.
