Petrol hikes are happening again, but never fear, because the SA government has some handy tips for getting around them.
Not really – their suggestions are about as useful as the ANC’s website (check it out, seriously, it’s worth it).
Wednesday saw another massive hike (you can read about the reasons behind that hike here), and many South Africans are now considering how to deal with the extra expense.
Following this, Twitter’s fury was triggered when the government tweeted that South Africans could beat the petrol hikes by buying a new, more fuel-efficient car.
Wow, that is seriously tone deaf.

It doesn’t help that taking most forms of public transport in this country is like getting drafted into the hunger games.
“New vehicles nonsense” is a pretty good summary of what’s happening here.
New vehicle subsidy sounds great. Also, John gets to the crux of the matter. The biggest problem with the SA Government’s tweet is that it shows up the massive divide between the government and the South African people.
We’re not all Guptas or Zumas, guys, we can’t just drop a wad of stolen cash on a new vehicle whenever we want.
