Ex-pats and poms alike should be aware that The Blonde and Baby Jesus are blessing Great Britain with their presence in just over a week. That’s right, my love, Goldfish are coming to London – and it’s gonna be a MASSIVE gig! The show is so close to being sold-out that I shifted this article forward by one week. Best you move. The three cinemas (Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town) we have managed to secure for a pre-public screening of Facebook movie, ‘The Social Network’ are 70% full so far – so if you have a blog and you want to watch the movie (with a buddy) before the general public, there is still time! Private screening will take place on 25 October! Follow the link to see how!
It’s been just over a month since the last TBG (Tall Blonde Guy) sighting – that magical moment experienced by 2oceansviber Barry, at the Biscuit Mill. A certain calm has once again descended upon Cape Town, and anyone who attended this year’s Rocking the Daisies festival will agree that the same aura was felt in and around the town of Darling. It’s little wonder we received this latest TBG Sighting.
We interviewed Duran Duran’s Simon Le bon on Friday afternoon live on 2oceansvibe Radio. If you missed it then not to worry – we’ve got the podcast right here for you to download. Find out what’s in store for us when they come to Cape Town. Pleas enjoy Simon’s enthusiasm about the yacht we’ve got lined up for him. Listen after the jump.
Cape locals Glenn Ward and Dries Millard are about to embark on a road trip of epic proportions – they’ll be undertaking a marathon trek from Saldanha to Cape Town. That’s a distance of 142km. Now I don’t know about you, but the daily trip to the water cooler is a significant achievement for me. Oh yeah, small detail. They’ll be doing it in wheel chairs.
It’s quite hard to say that one person turned out to be the ‘best thing’ about the Rocking The Daisies festival, held this last weekend in Darling. But no-one can deny the pure unadulterated awesomeness of ‘Festival Fireman,’ as he became known. From his outrageous outfit to his willingness to just rock-out, this 50+ year-old […]
Can you believe it’s that time of year agin? My goodness, I remember the first time I went – wet behind the ears and all that. Not exactly the festival sort, I was. But it turned out ok – they had luxury tenting you see. It was almost a disaster, if I remember correctly.I lost my car keys and found them again the next day – in the middle of the morning-after carnage. I swear. There were some guys and gals rocking out in whatever section it was that was still going on at that stage of the game. Imagine if I didn’t find my keys? Small nightmare going back to CT just to get the spare key.
But back to this year’s Daisies..
One of the world’s most celebrated DJs, JIMPSTER, is playing live at Cafe Caprice on Saturday night. And, what’s more, his entire set will be broadcast live on 2oceansvibe Radio. So if you’re unable to make it, you can have your own little party on your ace in your bedsit in Balham! Good lord, it’s […]
A national hero For breakfast, it’s steak porridge. For lunch, it’s steak. Around 3pm it’s a blended steak meal replacement. For dinner, it’s steak, with a side of biltong. We could be talking of no other than South Africa’s freshest Guinness World Record holder, Jan Braai.
Anyone who went the first time will happily confirm it was the greatest party of their lives. Well it’s happening again – and it’s gonna be crazier than ever. Chicks in lumo bikinis and roller-skates are not uncommon at these Kings Of Neon parties (how awesome is that name?). Trust me, it’s off the hizzo! […]
When the news came through that the Bobs for Good Foundation had delivered 282 pairs of shoes to Makanyu Primary school in the rural village of Hampego in Limpopo, I was sure that the school’s name had come up in the press before. So I did a little research and, sure enough, the school HAD […]
We’ve got a fairly massive story that has just broken. Ard Matthews from Just Jinjer chopped off his famous dreadlocks this weekend after losing a bet. Check this out: You know what this means – anyone attending his concert on Thursday with Theo Crous, Vusi motherfreaking Mahlasela, Plush, iScream, Jack Mantis, Louise Day (smoking hot) […]
It is always a joy when you back people or brands that you believe in, and they excel. As you know, 2oceansvibe doesn’t get behind just anyone or anything. We’ve had a pretty shit-hot record at backing the right horse/s and we’re not gonna risk that track record for anything. That’s why we are so […]
That’s right – you and one other person could be indulging in one of the year’s most anticipated lingerie event! The Cosmopolitan Lingerie Fashion Show – 26 August, 19h30, Upper East Side, Woodstock. You want to be there. You NEED to be there! That’s where you wanna be.. The September cover The Lingerie special – […]
NOTE: It was “videos” but is now just “video” as we have finally found the best footage possible! By all accounts the live footage of the Athlone Power Station Cooling Towers coming down left a lot to be desired. This was apparently due to the demolition people deciding to blow the towers up 4 minutes […]
Feeling a little bit wonky… When their students aren’t quibbling over gay kissing, UCT and Stellenbosch University are waging beer war. And beer is most certainly worth waging war over. Consider these wise words of wisdom from greater men than I: “You can’t be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline […]
Those of you who are Stellenbosch University Alumni may perhaps remember the annual “Soen in die Laan” (“Kiss in the Lane”) event, at which scores of students clench lips in a moment of heady abandon. Such a lovely Casablanca vibe, hey? Yeah, it is. Except…
It’s that time of year again, my friends, as the cream of South Africa’s blogger crop goes head to head for the industry’s highest honour. As a previous winner of the blog awards, 2oceansvibe encourages all blogs, big and small, to get involved *blog owners should click here to get a nomination badge. The 2010 […]
It was a night Cape Town will never forget – the launch of South Africa’s first mainstream online radio station. The party took place right next door to the radio studio, in the Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village , 27 Somerset Road, Green Point. For those of you who are new to this vibe, it should […]
Just yesterday I received an email from a reader saying they watched Just Jinjer in Johannesburg who had this to say: “holy shitballs they rocked amazing stage presence I went with some music mates and they must have creamed their pants several times…especially when they did that water and ice drum solo…INSANE..” Now you don’t […]
2oceansvibe Radio has the great honour of hosting South Africa’s leading cellist, Carol Thorns, for even a brief few moments at an upcoming media launch. And whilst I might be fully aware of her talents, and the fact that she is heading to the Edinburgh Festival (25 shows!), I had no idea that she was […]
Morning, Chaps. If you didn’t tune in 2oceansvibe Radio this morning, then you missed a cracker. Make sure you hit the podcast when it comes out. In any event, you have an opportunity to redeem yourself and prove once more that you’re worthy of the Vibe. Cape Town is hosting the Ubuntu Festival this weekend […]
Cape Town vibers, a little blue bird told me that South African muso Farryl Purkiss will be playing an exclusive, intimate gig at a chilled, private venue on the Atlantic Seaboard this evening. The first five vibers to email me (correct email after jump) get their name on the list, as well as the details […]
I put up a braai article the other day (The New Concise SA Braai Rules) which was very well received. So much so that I was contacted by the guys behind “National Braai Day ” which is a brilliant initiative aimed at establishing an annual day of celebration in South Africa – with South Africans […]
