Leandra Latest: Jessica Takes To Her Website To Apologise

Too little, too late?

With her name trending on Twitter, and most of the major news outlets having picked up the story, Jessica Leandra is having a pretty crap Friday thus far.

Earlier today, 2oceansVibe picked up on some tweets she issued last night during an incident at a Spar. Whoever it was who accosted her earned a K-bomb that has brought South Africa’s Twittersphere to a standstill this morning.

Here’s the offending tweet again:

Jessica took to her website to issue something like an apology for her outburst:

I tweeted rather irresponsibly about an incident I encountered last night, using a harsh and unkind word about the gentleman who had confronted me with sexual remarks and sounds.

Many of you don’t necessarily know the details about the incident, and I also don’t intend on going into them but I do wish you knew where my anger originally boiled from.

I strongly believe that no lady should brush off any kind of sexual harassment or arrogance from anyone be it a man or a woman of any colour. It is no surprise that my comment has offended many people and for this, I am apologetic. There is no excuse to act out loudly over my social networking accounts and I do apologise to those who have taken offense to my use of language.

Whilst most of you would enjoy the opportunity to throw a few vicious words at me, please do understand that I was acting in pure anger and frustration at the time and although we know this is no excuse, it is a lesson learnt and again, I am sincerely apologetic.

Anger is one thing, but I’m not sure confessing she was “boiling with anger” justifies the racism that followed, no matter how crudely she was accosted by this “gentleman” in Spar. Also, is she saying she’s sorry, or saying she’s sorry if we were offended?

We’ve already read reports that several of her brand sponsors may be looking to drop her, and it wouldn’t be a new reaction to such an incident- many international sports personalities have lost sponsorship and more for lashing out irresponsibly on Twitter and other social media.

We all get upset and boil from anger, but its no excuse to go to a social website and call people KAFFIRS. I don’t want to judge anyone but the first thing she did was tweet that ugly word…sounds like something she is quite used to…she probably says a lot of that word at home or with friends. She is a pure racist and she is not sorry at all!! She’s only sorry that she lost her sponsors…I don’t think what the guy said to her was that horrible, I think what was horrific was a ‘kaffir saying those things.’ Sorry darling…u r young and stupid!!! Anger is one thing, but she could have called him an a** or a jerk, etc but using a racial slur to define this man shows her true colours. If this incident was as bad as she said, why didn’t she go to store management? If that is what is truly bothering her she should have dealt with it.
