In a rather feeble attempt to garner attention for the plight of abused animals everywhere, PETA has launched an adult content site peta.xxx [NSFW, sort of]. The site has been in the pipeline for a while now, and features porn stars like Ron Jeremy and Jenna Jameson. Although, to be honest, there is harder porn on late night E-tv.
PETA has had a close affiliation with the risque, using nudity with their “only animals should wear fur” tagline for ages. Their recent banned Super Bowl ad featuring women getting all hot and sweaty with vegetables was particularly memorable. PETA apparently now has enough adult content to qualify for a .xxx domain, and has consolidated all of it into one place along with terrible pictures of animals getting abused.
This is slightly confusing as one imagines the main reason porn is watched online is to assist in some masturbatory pleasures. So, in the middle of these pleasures the last thing I can imagine someone wanting is a picture of a battery chicken that has just been, “dragged through tanks of scalding-hot water.” But this is how the site works.
PETA explains:
PETA’s mission is to put an end to animal suffering, and we use every available opportunity to spread this message—we always have, and we always will. Unfortunately, this is not always an easy task. Unlike our opposition, which is mostly made up of wealthy industries and corporations, PETA must rely on getting free “advertising” through media coverage. It’s a safe bet that many visitors to PETA.xxx didn’t set out to learn about how animals are mercilessly slaughtered on today’s factory farms; understandably, such topics are convenient to ignore. That’s why PETA must make our message impossible to forget—and launching a website with a .xxx domain name is one way that we can achieve that goal.
The site features well know porn stars like Ron Jeremy who says in a welcoming video, while, strangely, playing a harmonica that “[t]his site has some of the most explicit and jaw-dropping videos I have ever seen, and that says a lot.” If you were hoping for Mexican-midget-anal-bondage-porn, you’ll be disappointed, as the hardcore videos are films of animal abuse that “that no TV stations have dared to run”.
The site hopes to have user submitted photos of people going naked for PETA as well as famous arses, sorry, faces. It’s a rather silly publicity stunt, which I am sure will have the Sydney Morning Herald’s headline, “Pro-vegetarian group treats women like meat” trotted out again. People who want porn, want porn, and unless you are turned on by the torture of animals, the site is all rather soft-core.
